FOUNDATION SUPPORTS IDPD

London Irish and the London Irish Foundation will combine to support the upcoming International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).

The day was created by the UN in 1992, with the aim of promoting the rights and well-being of disabled people across society and raising awareness of disability in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

To kick-off proceedings, the Foundation are hosting a Disability Festival at Osborne School in Winchester on Friday 3rd December.

Over 250 children with various disabilities will be taking part in rugby sessions at the school - and each will wear a pair of purple socks!

Why? Well the aim is simple - to engage the nation with one, effortless, single act of united solidarity - to buy and wear a pair of Parallel’s purple socks.

In doing so, it will help raise positive awareness of disability inclusion, whilst also helping to create a new Parallel Fund to provide grants to kick-start disability owned businesses and help disabled entrepreneurs.

24 hours later on matchday - on Saturday 4th December - London Irish host Newcastle Falcons for our #JustTryIt Family Day at the Brentford Community Stadium, and the celebrations will continue.

In the morning, the Foundation will host another Disability Festival, this time at Uxbridge High School in Uxbridge, with all the participants then making their way to the stadium to be part of a pre-match parade, before forming a guard of honour as both sides take to the pitch at the BCS.

But that’s not all - as part of the celebrations, London Irish players will wear special purple socks for our home fixture against the Falcons, to help raise positive awareness of disability inclusion.

It promises to be a memorable couple of days for the Club and the Foundation - and we’re proud to be playing our part in the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
