Last month the London Irish Foundation teamed up with Active Surrey, Surrey County Council and Saputo to deliver a “Fit and Fed” holiday programme in Ashford, near Heathrow Airport.
The “Fit and Fed” initiative was aimed at tackling holiday hunger, inactivity and isolation for children aged from 7 to 11.
The programme which was delivered at Ashford Youth Centre, saw over 30 children attend and take part in a variety of activities including multi-sports, personal best challenges, mini-Olympics, arts and crafts and nutritional workshops.
In the course of 10 days, the youngsters mixed with their peers, some that they knew and others they now call friends.
Commenting on the programme, London Irish Foundation Manager Joseph Pegg said, “It was fantastic to team up with local partners to deliver a much-needed initiative in the community. Children have suffered over the last four months of lockdown and this programme offered a timely opportunity for them to interact with their peers in a safe and fun environment.”
Feedback received to date from the participants and their parents has been positive with one parent commenting, “Thanks for coordinating the camp last week. Both my children had a great time and mentioned how supportive your coaching team were.”
