Foundation Team Deliver 'Take Up The Whistle' Referee Course Alongside Middlesex County Rugby

The Foundation Team delivered 'Take Up The Whistle' referee course in partnership with Middlesex County Rugby on the 16th and 23rd of January 2024.

We are very grateful to Bob Lawless  Chairman of Middlesex County Rugby Coaching and Referee Development who funded the course for both the Foundation, students, and staff from the Bishop Wand School in Sunbury-on-Thames.

Both evenings were delivered by two fantastic referee tutors from the London Society of Rugby Football Union Referees.

Across the two weeks, the participants on the course began their referee endeavours with the goal of being able to referee at the Foundations U13 & U14 Girls and Boys rugby festival on 4th February 2024 at Hazelwood.

Throughout two extremely cold evenings, the referee tutors taught the participants a range of skills from hand signals, new laws, how to deal with players, and how to blow a whistle!

The participants got stuck into the two evenings of practical's on the field, and discussions in the classroom covering numerous refereeing situations. The tutors made sure to challenge the group by adding external pressures and game/law situations.

The group were delighted to have completed the course, and now look forward to refereeing age grade rugby games with confidence in their decisions.

Wayne Wedgbury, Head of Operations at the Foundation said, "We would like to thank both Rob Park and Steve Biles the two London Society referee tutors for their enthusiasm and experience given during the two evenings at Hazelwood".

"Our sincere thanks and gratitude to Bob Lawless, Chairman of Middlesex County Rugby Coaching and Referee Development for his continued support and development of grass roots rugby".
