EASTER FUN AT SHEPPERTON YOUTH CENTRE

During the recent Easter break, the London Irish Foundation team delivered the “HAF” initiative aimed at tackling holiday hunger, inactivity and isolation for children aged 7 to 12.

The programme held at the Shepperton Youth Centre, in partnership with Active Surrey, is split into various activities covering, arts & crafts, sports, indoor games such as pool, table football and Giant Jenga.

The activities are tailored to the children’s interests finding a good balance around learning, enjoyment and participant involvement.

Throughout the programme we deliver a healthy, nutritional food experience, whilst educating them via our Champions App programme around different foods. The aim is to educate the youngsters on what they eat, and start the process of understanding what they eat, and the benefits of the various foods.

We provide the children with “treats” during the HAF Camp in addition to their healthy food options.

Commenting on the programme, London Irish Foundation Inclusion Lead James Carne said, “It’s great to work in partnership with Active Surrey and deliver a much-needed initiative in our community. The youngsters are really committed to the week, with each youngster having different interests throughout the programme. They certainly go home tired, but return the next day ready to go again.”
