Over the Summer the London Irish Foundation teamed up with Active Surrey, to deliver a holiday programme in Ashford and Shepperton, “HAF”.
“HAF” initiative is aimed at tackling holiday hunger, inactivity and isolation for children aged 7 to 12.
The programme was delivered at Ashford Youth Centre and Shepperton Community Centre,
Over 80 children attended the 4 week camp with amazing enthusiasm.
The youngsters took part in a variety of activities including Street games, rugby and football skills, and many other fun activities. The children also had a chance to show off their arts and crafts skills, and enjoyed a full balanced nutritional lunch each day.
Over the course of 4 weeks, the children mixed with friends new and old from various schools.
Commenting on the programme, London Irish Foundation Inclusion Officer Kenzie Ballantine said, “It’s great to work with Active Surrey and deliver a much-needed initiative in the community over the long, hot, summer. The requirements of entertaining the children, ensuring that the youngsters get a balanced diet whilst their parents and guardians are working or looking after other family members are elements which make this project so worthwhile.”
The feedback has been extremely positive from the children and parents alike. One mum kindly said, “I wouldn’t have coped if it wasn’t for you guys”
