The Foundation Takes Team Building To Magna Carta To Assist Their Enrichment Program
On the 21st of February the Foundation team headed over to Magna Carta to host a day of activities all centred around bringing pupils of the school together via various team building challenges, we worked with the entirety of the year 10 cohort and it was a hugely successful day !
We hosted a series of activities including: Minefield, Pipeline, Desert Island and Build-A-Structure. The year group were split into groups with people they don't often have lessons with and thus the teams were set and ready for an exciting day.
Our Community Lead Johnny and Community Coach Fin hosted Minefield and Build-A-Structure.
Johnny took the lead on Build-A-structure and saw that there were some budding engineers with an array of brilliant ideas and plans. Groups were challenged to build the tallest structure they possibly could while also making it robust and sturdy enough so that they can support the weight of a golf ball for a 10 second period. The groups did not disappoint and produced some really impressive structures that were able to successfully complete the challenge.
Fin was the group lead for Minefield, and saw that the groups were extremely receptive to the exciting nature of the game. Minefield involves groups of three working together to guide the blindfolded member of the trio through a minefield of cones and obstacles. If you touch an obstacle its right back to the start ! As the groups began to relax and get more comfortable together the noise levels rose and the fun began.
Our Inclusion Lead James and Inclusion Officer Rhys took on the challenge of hosting Desert Island and Pipeline.
James headed up our Desert Island challenge with the groups. Desert Island is a game all about debating and reasoning, getting the individuals in the groups to share their opinions and voice why they believe that certain items should be bought to the Desert Island. James had the following to say,
"The Desert Island game promotes prioritising, organisation and team work around a particular situation. All the groups took to the game extremely well and displayed all the prior characteristics, while there were no right or wrong answers the group showed a forward thinking and imaginative approach to the given situations "
Pipeline had previously been one of our most popular games and Rhys reported that it was once again. Pipeline involves the groups racing against other groups to complete the course. The teams must use pieces of pipe to guide a golf ball up to and around certain obstacles while keeping the golf ball in a constant moving state. The competitive aspect of pipeline made for an exciting race and the groups all came back and stated how much fun they had.
The Foundation are very grateful for the receptive students of Magna Carta and look forward to delivering the same activities to other schools in the future.
