LONDON IRISH FOUNDATION DELIVER HOLIDAY, ACTIVITY AND FOOD PROGRAMME DURING EASTER HOLIDAYS

The London Irish Foundation were delighted to be selected by Active Surrey to deliver the first round of the Holiday, Activity and Food (HAF) programme.

The HAF programme is funded by the Department of Education to provide additional support to eligible families to access holiday activities.  Foundation Manager Joseph Pegg said ‘School holidays are usually seen as an opportunity to go on holidays and enjoy time together however for some families this can be a challenging time who may have limited access to food, activities and learning opportunities’.

The programme which was delivered at Ashford Youth Centre for primary school children saw them take part in a variety of activities such as football, rugby, basketball. Arts and crafts and athletics. In addition to this the children learnt about healthy eating and what makes a balanced diet. A parent of children who attended the programme spoke highly of the programme: “Thank you so much for a wonderful, unforgettable week – the girls had a blast!” The programme was support by work placement students from our HITZ Traineeship.

Inclusion Apprentice Ben Nutt said ‘The children who took part were fantastic. They were engaged in all the activities and we started to see really strong friendship bonds form over the 4 days. A big focus of ours was to get out and be active and it was lovely to see so many happy faces’.

Thank you so much for a wonderful, unforgettable week – the girls had a blast!"
