The London Irish Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Topsy Ojo as Interim Chairman of the Board of Trustees, with immediate effect.
The former London Irish and England rugby international succeeds Paddy Lennon, who has retired after serving as Chairman since 2019. In recognition of his outstanding contribution, Lennon has accepted an invitation from the Board to become the Foundation’s Honorary President.
A native of Dundalk, Ireland, and graduate of University College Dublin, Patrick (Paddy) Lennon began his business career in the aviation and leisure industries before founding his own marketing and communications consultancy in 1985. His involvement with rugby union spans more than three decades, covering both the amateur and professional eras. Widely respected across the game, Lennon is the author of A Short History of Rugby Union (2012) and 125 Years of Passion in Exile (2023).
Topsy Ojo has been a Trustee of the Foundation since 2019 and now takes on the leadership role at a pivotal moment in its development. A natural leader both on and off the pitch, he brings to the Chairmanship the same values that defined his playing career: commitment, integrity, and a strong belief in the power of rugby to inspire and transform lives.
Born in London and educated at Dulwich College, Topsy Ojo enjoyed a distinguished playing career with London Irish, making a record 301 appearances, scoring 85 tries, and earning two England caps over a 16-year career.
Since retiring, Ojo has been deeply committed to giving back to the sport through his work with the Foundation. Alongside his charitable involvement, he is also a coach and a familiar voice and face in rugby broadcasting, working with BT Sport, Channel 5, and BBC Radio 5 Live.
In his new role as Interim Chairman, Ojo is determined to build on the charity’s progress and ensure it continues to expand its reach and impact.
Andy Keast, CEO of the London Irish Foundation, said:
“On behalf of everyone at the Foundation, I want to thank Paddy for his outstanding leadership and commitment since becoming Chairman in 2019. His vision, passion for rugby, and tireless work have been instrumental in helping us grow and deliver meaningful programmes that truly change lives. We are delighted that Paddy will continue to be part of our journey as Honorary President.
At the same time, we are very excited to welcome Topsy as our Interim Chairman. Topsy has been an invaluable Trustee since 2019 and is hugely respected both within rugby and beyond. He brings energy, experience, and a deep understanding of the communities we serve. With his unique perspective as a former professional player, broadcaster, and coach, I am confident he will help take the Foundation forward and build on the strong platform that Paddy has established.”
